“on his latest album Live at the Blue Note, trumpeter extraordinaire Arturo Sandoval is one zealous and exciting performer.” – Philadelphia Weekly
“The arc of Arturo’s career is all here, his flights, his voyaging. Those in the know have been given a rare opportunity to go with him. This document, one special night at the Blue Note, is the passport.” – Jeff Levenson, Executive Prodcuer of Half Note Records
Arturo Sandoval is one of the most accomplished and versatile musicians in Miami. A Cuban-born trumpet player and former Dizzy Gillespie protégé, Sandoval has performed with artists as diverse as Frank Sinatra, Patti LaBelle, Gloria Estefan, and many others. His solos on Sinatra’s Duets II album still induce goose bumps. As a classical musician, Sandoval appeared alongside symphony orchestras around the world and earned numerous Grammy awards. He even garnered an Emmy in 2001 for his compositions of the score to For Love of Music or Country, an HBO movie based on his life story, starring Andy Garcia. On his latest release, Live at the Blue Note, Sandoval weaves bebop, traditional, and Latin jazz into one seamless mix that is a testament to his live chops.
LIVE AT THE BLUE NOTE is Arturo Sandoval’s first live album in nearly 40 recordings. It is a double package capturing the electricity of this award-winning artist and showman. Neon buzz, heavy rhythm! Playing trumpet, piano and timbales, Arturo’s musical abilities are in full flower. This is a crowd-pleasing performance! The DVD is done documentary-style, featuring the complete show coupled with interview footage.
